Why this portal?
Most resources explain what should happen.
This portal shares what actually happens.
Developed by Global Methane Hub and Waste Warriors Society, the portal brings together practical guidance, research, and tools to help practitioners design and scale waste systems with confidence.
The knowledge shared here is rooted in years of implementation across rural communities, urban centres, and protected areas. It captures both successes and failures to help you build more effective systems.
Our vision
Waste-management knowledge that is practical, accessible and useful wherever people are building better systems.
Our mission
To make field experience easier to find, understand and apply, so practitioners can move from a problem to a next step.
From the Field
Design for the place you are in.
In mountain landscapes, difficult terrain, limited infrastructure and seasonal movement make familiar waste models harder to carry. The answer is not a single template—it is better questions, local knowledge and systems that can adapt.
We don’t theorize about waste management, we’ve spent over a decade building it on the ground, in some of India’s most difficult terrain. This portal turns that hands-on experience into tools anyone can use.

Role: Communications Lead
Paryavaran Sakhi Model: community-led solution to manage solid waste
Set in the eco-sensitive Corbett Tiger Reserve, Paryavaran
Pathways captures how 21 rural women (some with master
degrees), once stigmatised for “dirty” waste work, have
became ‘Paryavaran Sakhis’ - entrepreneurs and community
leaders - protecting wildlife, driving climate action, and
shaping a future for themselves where dignity and financial
aspirations go hand in hand.
Shoonya: Towards zero unchecked solid waste in the Himalayas
Imagine a village, where there is no mobile network or even
a health centre - yet household waste is collected,
segregated in a waste bank, and sent for recycling. Shoonya
is the story of six villages within Govind Wildlife Sanctuary
that captures the pride of a community stepping up where
waste is a new threat and external systems are absent.
" In today’s AI-driven world, information is available everywhere, yet reliable knowledge is increasingly difficult to identify. The challenge is no longer simply finding information; it is developing the ability to question it, verify it, and use it responsibly because AI can never replace critical thinking, primary sources, or human judgement.
Being a Waste Warrior means understanding context, recognising bias, checking evidence, and distinguishing credible sources from unsupported claims. Here is where this knowledge portal serves to plug the gap -as the need of the hour today is to know where to look for genuine information for knowledge must lead to action ! "
